In the last post on doing keyword research for your niche website, I said that I would show you how I do keyword research for you primary and secondary keywords to build your main pages for your niche website. Well, here it is…

I’ve got my keyword list from NicheBot. and have imported it into KRA Pro. Time to start my analysis… I want about ten main pages. I already know that a couple of these will revolve around fishing equipment and accessories that I have affiliate accounts with.

So, in reality I’m looking at what people are searching for and narrowing down the field… What I start out with is that I use KRA Pro to filter my NicheBot search results. I choose 24 hour results and filter those that have 20 searches and then I look at the competition. I want lower competition less than 5000… here’s the results:

In a normal niche, these should give you the basis of your main pages…

But, from this, it seems that people are searching for where to fish in Colorado. Many of these searches are along the Front Range (4-5 of the above searches depending upon how you interpret this data)… And, these are searches as of the 15th of May… Since this niche is seasonal, I believe that other fishing areas will show up when one does keyword research later in the season.

It looks like people are searching for fishing areas and this is a good group to target this niche website around. Most of what’s getting searched today, is along the front range and ridgway is on the western slope And Pagosa Springs is in Southern Colorado. If you dial down with KRA Pro, you find that every search seems to revolve around different areas of Colorado… You can basically divide the stae into quarters based on what people are searching for…

So, because this is such a small, specific niche, I have to look at the overall and not just go for the above 20 24hr search and less than 5000 competition like I do for most niches, I’m going with these but I’m also going with some areas that I fish all over Colorado. But, at least I know what people are searching for at this point in time.

This is a start… and gives me the information that I need to get started… I see that from Google trends that the next couple of months is when people are searching for the main phrase… so, I’ll keep tabs on the searches and see what other ones manifest as the prime time happens.

But Let’s Not Forget the Secondary Keywords

To do this, I can go back to the overall market of fly fishing. I’m doing this search because I have a very tight niche that I’m targeting and I can modify any of the overall market’s keywords with the word "Colorado". So, here’s what I came up with; for those keywords and phrases that have a 24 hour search of more than 50 and a competition less than 5000:

You might notice that "fly fishing Colorado front range" is one of these and I’ve already targeted this keyword phrase as one of the main pages. But if we use KRAPro to sort these by 24 hr. count, we come up with these keywords and phrases:

Now we’re starting to see what people are looking for. I can easily write about "Colorado rainbow trout fly fishing", "Colorado fly fishing supplies", Martin fly fishing reels for Colorado conditions", etc. There’s everything from informational keywords to buying keywords in this group as we drill down through the list.

Secondary keywords are great because they can be used for article pages that will be used to link to the main pages and back them up at the same time. And, I can use the KRA Pro function called "Niche within a Niche" tool to sort the keywords and phrases to refine them even more… Here’s the report on long tail keywords from our list:

And here’s a more refined list of keywords using the "niche within a niche" tool…

With this report, I’m having KRA Pro give unique keywords that Google and the other would expect if I targeted any of the keywords in this related group. If you’re using a keyword research tool, this is one of the features that you would want for your analyzing of your list.

I’m trying to do some niche marketing in the Colorado fly fishing niche. This is a small, tight market. But, looking for niche keywords for this market is easy using NicheBot and KRA Pro has been easy. One of the things that you have to keep in mind is that when you make your main pages, these will be the overall topics.

Secondary keywords will be used on these pages to reinforce the primary keywords and will also be used for the primary keywords for the article pages that will back up the main pages and link to them. Which ever page that you are writing, the content on that page has to be relevant and informative so that you visitor gets the best experience that they are searching for.

Using keyword research analyzing software can help you make sense of what people are truly searching for. They can also help you find niche keywords to structure your niche website and make it more search engine friendly.

I’m hoping that you got into my head a little to see how I do the keyword research to do the basic structure of my niche website’s main pages and when I’m looking at that structure, I’m thinking about the secondary keywords for those pages and how the article pages that will back them up will also use some of those keywords and link the whole site together like a spider’s web.

In the next post, I’ll go even deeper with this analysis and show you how to use it to make the backbone of your niche website…

You found out how to structure your affiliate website that you are going to build in the last post on structuring your website, and in this post, you’ll find out how to do the keyword research to make your main pages.

Okay, here’s the thing… I’ve been wanting to do a website on fly fishing… Why? Because fly fishers are avid about it… I know because I’m one of them… And these fishermen are avid buyers of anything fly fishing… rods, reels, flies, line, all sorts of accessories…

So, I’ve been doing my keyword research using NicheBot as my keyword tool of choice and have found that "fly fishing" is a huge market… But, I noticed that one of the micro-niches in this market is "Colorado fly fishing". This is one that I am very familiar with as I live in Colorado and I fly fish here. So I’ve decided that this will be my niche to target.

One of my main reason to do this is that I have a website devoted to Colorado travel and it is well established with Google and the other search engines. I can use it to link to my new website. I’ve checked out domain names and have purchased coloradoflyfishing.biz as the domain because all the .com, .info, .org, and .nets are taken. So, now I need to structure the site and create the main pages…

The secondary reason I chose this niche is that it is a "niche within a niche" that is a smaller but more "focused market"… It has a more highly targeted visitor and is easier to go after (as far as rankings) and this is good from the prospective of internet marketing and me being a marketer… Yet the visitor will buy the same products that the overall fly fishing market is willing to buy…

The First Thing is to Figure the Keyword Hierarchy Your The Niche Website

It’s obvious that for my niche, the homepage will have "Colorado Fly Fishing" as the main keyword because this is the title and domain of the website. I know this is a highly searched for keyword with high competition. But this doesn’t matter… Who cares what visitor finds the homepage… When you’re looking at the structure of your niche website, the main pages will be pages centered around highly searched for keyword phrases with lower competition.

The feeder pages linked to the main pages will be "article pages" that revolve around long tail keyword phrases that have low search volume with low competition… One of the things that you have to keep in mind, no matter where the page fits into the hierarchy of the website, each page that you create is a "landing page" (a page that people find through the search engines) that has to satisfy what the visitor is searching for…

Visitors to your niche site won’t necessarily come to your homepage first. They will end up at the page that is most relevant to their search. People searching for Blue River fly fishing won’t be sent to my homepage, they will be sent to my page on Blue River fly fishing by the search engines.

Every Page is a Landing Page… but Even a Landing Page has to be Informative

There’s some things that you should know about niche websites…

First and foremost, they have to be informative and answer the visitor’s questions they are thinking about

Secondly, each page has to be a landing page unto itself and satisfy what the visitor is searching for via keywords and keyword phrases

Thirdly, keyword research determines the theme of each page

You know, you will get higher rankings if you are yourself in what you write and are informative and authoritative in what you are writing… Google loves informative and especially, authoritative information… I’m serious… If your purpose is to provide the most relevant information, then it’s up to you to do this by providing the right content and Google and the other search engines will reward you with higher rankings.

In order to become authoritative with your niche website, you have to do your keyword research. For this, I use NicheBot. as my keyword research tool I like that they can query many different databases. Then I use KRAPro software to analyse the keywords and keyword phrases that NicheBot finds.

Creating Your Main Pages for Your Niche Website

First up is that you have to find the best keywords to use for your main pages. And, at the same time, you have to keep in mind your article pages that will link to them. What you are initially looking to do is find niche keywords that will make major topics within your niche.

You should be looking to 5-10 main pages that you’ll be creating. We not only need to find the primary keywords for these pages but we need to find secondary keywords that are related to these terms that will theme our main pages so that the search engines will know exactly what these pages are about.

The nice thing about keyword research is that you get to see what people are searching for in real time. This gets you into the minds of your visitors and allows you to deliver the actual content they want. After all, it’s all about what your visitors want, not what you think they want. So if you’re building a niche website, you can structure your website around exactly what people are searching for. And that’s what niche marketing is all about.

In the next post I’ll show you how I find the primary and secondary keywords for the main pages and how I research keywords for the article pages that will support them. This can be done quickly if you have the right keyword analysis tools to do the trick for you…

Until then… start thinking about the niche website that you are going to target….

How to Create a Website Design and Structure for Your Niche Website

I want you to make money online through your affiliate marketing efforts. In order for you to do this, you have to start by designing your website right so that the search engines find, index, and rank you properly. This starts out with internal structuring of the site to begin your search engine optimization efforts.

You may have seen in my last post that I had a comment from a realtor that asked me a question about Web Content Studio vs KRA Pro for a keyword research software. In the comment section I said that I should do a few posts about how I do niche keyword research with KRA Pro vs article research and writing with Web Content Studio… This is the first of those posts.

You to know, you can do all of the keyword research that you want with any software but it doesn’t mean anything unless you have thought through the process of how the website is structured around your keywords and what this means to how search engines will rank you.

This is One Thing About Niche Affiliate Marketing the Gurus Don’t Seem to Tell You

"Theme" is all important in this thought process because it leads to how the site is structured. You have to choose the right structure for for your site so the search engines are to be able to figure out what your website is all about. That’s if you don’t want to pay for traffic… i.e. free.

Even if you do plan to pay for traffic through PPC or some other method, you should have a tiered website that is structured to gain free traffic from the web. It should be informational and devoted to your market’s needs… where you monetize some of the pages with Adsense or other such programs. And, other pages are to promote affiliate programs. The remaining pages on the site should be devoted to capturing names and email addresses for list building.

I wrote a post a while back on how to theme and <a href="http://ristvinmarketing.com/MarketingBlog/tips-on-a-themed-niche-website-structure-known-as-a-siloed-site/ target="blank">silo a website… This may have looked complicated but it showed how articles brought the theme of the website together so that Google and the other search engines got what you were talking about and figured out the gist of the different pages. Okay somewhat complicated but easy to figure out… So, here’s a bit less complicated version that I just put together…

The linking strategy that I’m using here is to accomplish:

Being found and indexed by Google (and the other search engines), and….

Satisfies search engine latent semantic index (LSI), algorithms.

Maximizes visibility of all web pages

Funnels pagerank and link reputation to the most important pages, thus…

They rank high in any of the search engines

Include a Sitemap and Article Directory Page on Your Niche Website

I suggest that you include a sitemap and link to it from the homepage so that your pages will be found by Google and the others… You can go to <a href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/ target="blank">Google sitemap plugin to get one if your niche site is run off the WordPress platform…

Be sure to link to your sitemap from your homepage. Better yet, link from each of your pages which will pass PR on to the sitemap and then that will be passed back to each of the pages in the end.

Plus, I suggest that you have an "article directory page" or map to all of your pages that are relevant to your theme and tell the search engines what you are about… This is a time proven method for getting articles indexed…

Decide on 5-10 Keywords or Key phrases That Will Become Your Main Page of Your Niche Website

We will look at how you can use KRA Pro to do this in the next post. Once you have the key phrases chosen to do this, you will make the main pages. Each one of these pages will focus on these main keywords. Once these pages are created, a navigation menu will be made linking each of the main pages and this menu will be one every page in your website.

Now, you need “article pages” to back up the main pages and get higher rankings on the search engine results pages (SERPs). The long tail keywords that you will use to make these will increase your chances of being found on all the search engines, but especially on Google.

You want to use the article that you create to:

Gain search engine traffic

Improve your rankings of the main pages on your website

Funnel traffic from your articles to either an affiliate merchant or another page on your site.

Once Your Website is Finished, You Need to Get Links From Related Websites

There are many ways of doing this. You can do reciprocal links, but this takes time and is the hard way to do this… If you do, you need to set up a resources page so that Google doesn’t look down on you.

The best way is to write great content and link bait pages that will get other webmasters to link to your pages.

The other great way is to write pertinent articles that relate to your pages and submit them to the various article directories with deep links back to your site. This can take some effort too, but you can outsource this if you want to.

In the next post, I’ll start showing you how I use KRA Pro to set up a niche website like the one that I describe above to do affiliate marketing. And, with that software, we’ll make the site blueprint and build the website….

So to answer Jim’s question from the last post, Yes I use KRA Pro to do the research for the niche website and I use Web Content Studio to do the research and writing the content for the site.

Sometimes It’s the Content Research and Writing Software You’re Using That’s at Fault…

Sorry for the sales page-type header and sub-head… Been re-writing a ClickBank sales page for a niche product and getting a bit melodramatic… But seriously…

Ever Thought of Themeing Your Articles for Maximum Ranking Quality?

Are you looking for better rankings on the search engines for your web content and articles? I am too… And, here’s what I’ve found out since I’ve been using Web Content Studio by Dr. Andy Williams…

I don’t want to sound too hypey… but I have found out that using this software over the past couple of months has done some stuff for my search engine rankings that I always hoped for but never fully achieved.

There’s been some hype in the past couple of years about latent semantic indexing (LSI), and what it can do for search engine rankings… I’ve found, and maybe you have too, that it isn’t really LSI but it’s themeing that’s important (a word coined by Dr. Andy). So, what is themeing…

Theme Your Web Content and Articles

Themeing is when you focus your writing around a central keyword or keyword phrase and those keywords and phrases that are related to your central theme… In this way, Google and the other search engines know what the content of the web page is about…

I wrote a review on Web Content Studio a while back when I first began using it… And… Let me tell you, I highly recommend it as a content writing software…

I have some new things to tell you about how I’ve been ranking with this new software tool… Anymore, when I write an article or any web content I write it with Dr. Andy’s Web Content Studio software…

At first, I was impressed because I was making themed pages… but not like I am now… I have to admit that when I was getting used to the software within the Studio, I didn’t know how to use it to it’s max…

So, even though the results were impressive back then, they were nothing like I am getting today…

Start Out Right Using the Built-in Research Mode

Use the research mode to find the right informational keywords or phrases to use as “seeds” for your keyword research… This is very important as if you use the wrong seed words in the keyword spider, you will be returned a bunch of bum keywords from sales pages and squeeze pages…

Those keywords and phrases will be ones that don’t pertain to the theme of the content you are planning to write. Look at the results that Google returns on the first SERP page. Do they relate to what you’re writing? If not, adjust your keywords so that yu find pages that do.

Let’s say the first four pages look good… The next couple are simply video squeeze pages that can’t be spidered and the rest are sales pages for product in that niche. If after more research, this is the best you can get, then set the keyword spider to look only at those first four pages.

Use the Keyword Spider to Find Your Theme Keywords

With the research out of the way, it’s time to use the spider to find the theme keywords…

You are always going to find keywords and phrases that simply don’t fit the theme of your article. So, you will have to go to the list of words and phrases that are returned and fine tune the list.

This is easy as WCS has check boxes to select those that you want to use in your content. Be sure to export your new list into the WYSIWYG editor so you can check the density and themeing later.

Check Your Theme Words Against the Top Ten Websites for Your Keywords

Before I start writing seriously, I check the keywords and phrases against the top 10 websites (easy to do with this web content software’s built in tool) to see if they are truly themed…

I want to make totally sure that the keywords that I am targeting are dead on… You can edit your keyword and phrase list if they’re not, and then check the new list against the top ten search results again…

This is the first stage of guaranteeing that my web page will see the light of the first page in Google and the other search engines….

Web Content Studio is About Themeing

One of the best things that this software has to offer you is the “theme report”… This includes a “theme score” and a “quality theme score”…

You can see which theme words you haven’t used and how they are affecting you content. The difference between the theme score and the quality theme score it very important… it shows how the search engines view your content and/or article as spammy or not…

As an affiliate marketer making your niche statement, this is the make or break between you being found on the first page of Google or passed by in the night…

The nice thing is that this software does the keyword research for you and aides you in making sure that those keywords are written into your content… In doing this, you get the highest quality article for the best rankings for your keywords and phrases…

But, the proof is in the pudding… Here’s what I did this morning when writing an article on squeeze pages…

Web Content Studio Case Study– Squeeze Pages

After doing the keyword research with the Keyword Spider and writing the blog post…. I transferred the article to Windows Live Writer via the WYSIWYG clipboard, set the category and tags… Uploaded it and then checked it an hour later… The article had been indexed and was on page one for the main keyword that I was targeting…

The key thing that I have found is that the closer the Theme Score and Quality Theme Score are to each other, the higher you will rank on the search engine SERPS…. And, that means that the higher your web page will rank in organic search results (that’s taking into account that you are doing everything else right as far as SEO)…

What I do is let the keyword spider do its thing and then I pick the keywords and phrases that I think the article will theme for… Now, I will admit that not all the words and phrases that will be used, but I’m looking for the balance between the theme score and quality theme score.

This is because I’ve found when doing my research that Google and the other search engines use this more for ranking than other factors….

Within an hour, Google had indexed me (in fact, within 20 minutes), and I was #1 for my main keyword on the first page of Google’s SERPS for longer tail keywords…

Another Case Study on Web Content Studio Itself

Another case study was on Web Content Studio where I had done a review of this content writing software…

I did this review months ago and it still remains at the number three of the review positions to this day…

This was my first test of the Web Content Studio software I ever did… And, the research for my previous post and Web Content Studio review….

These above results are what sold me on Web Content Studio for being my new web content writing software. If you write as much of your website content as I do (or to check that your outsourced content is themed), you will want to use WCS so you can send your content onto the first page of any search engine…

What Can You Do?

Squeeze pages have been known by many other names over time… Splash pages, optin pages and permission email forms… What ever they are called, they are designed to capture the name and email address of visitors so that you can maintain a relationship with visitors that fill out and submit the optin form and become a subscriber to your list.

List building is an important part of maintaining an online business and a high converting squeeze page is central to this process. One of the problems that I see as I surf the web is that most internet marketers don’t have a profitable squeeze page because they are not designed right or are not presented well to their visitors to be high converting…

I see a bunch of problems with the average squeeze page… One of the biggest is that people are simply offering a newsletter for their optin. Let me tell you that everyone is offering a newsletter for you to give up your name and email address and become part of their list.

You have to offer something unique and of value to the visitor to get them to give up their information and join your list. At the same time, you have to let them know that they are subscribing to your list and will be receiving your newsletter or emails from you… be honest.

This is the point when it comes to your squeeze page… you have to make it clear what the visitor is getting for giving up their name and email address. Be honest with them and straight forward. To be a high converting splash page, you need to give your prospects and subscribers something of value to them…

Creating a high converting squeeze page is an art… This is a special landing page that has a purpose. You have to offer a bonus ebook, special report or something that they will value in return for their information. I look to masters like Paul Myers and his bonus, 112 page book on internet marketing and the mindset that you need to pull it off as what you need to offer. That is over-delivering and that’s what you what to do.

The big challenge is if you’re an affiliate marketer because you are sending your visitors to someone else and they are building their list at your expense… I’ve addressed this in other posts… And what to do when your in that situation…

Eliminate Distractions on Your Squeeze Page

And Leaks out to other web pages and websites
Every element of your squeeze page either helps or hampers your goal of persuading your visitor to provide his or her email address. That’s the purpose…

Your headline, copy, photos, and testimonials must support your conversion process. If they don’t, get rid of them… A lot of internet marketers create squeeze pages that are too long and filled with unnecessary distractions that take the visitor off the page and on to something away from your goal. Even too many testimonials can reduce your opt-in conversion rate.

Get rid of every distraction that takes visitors away from your optin form. Eliminate outbound links that take people off your squeeze page without their opting in.

Mirror Proven Templates

There are many successful sites that have been using the same squeeze page for years. The reason is that the format of those optin pages are so effective for driving conversions.

For example, Eben Pagan’s www.doubleyourdating.com went largely unchanged for nearly five years… The reason he changed it might be due to his squeeze page being adopted in dozens of other niches and he wanted to be different again.

If you notice a successful online marketer or internet business using the same squeeze over a long period, adopt the page and test it. Testing is an important part of getting higher conversions from your splash page.

Create An Irresistible Offer

Believe it or not, in the past, people used to willingly provide their email addresses simply to receive a weekly e-zine or newsletter. Those days are no longer with us. Today, you need to offer something of percieved value to persuade your visitors to subscribe to your list.

Special reports in PDF format are an ideal fit because information has a high-perceived value in nearly every niche. A series of specific video tutorials can also work well in some niches. Even free access to tools, software and calculators can seal the deal with your visitors.

The bottom line is to create an offer and make it irresistible to your visitors. And that leads perfectly into the fourth key to squeeze pages.:

Sell The Opt-In Through Emotion and Benefits

You need to sell the free report or whatever you are giving away for their name and email address… And if you can inject emotion into the appeal, you’ll see your squeeze page’s conversion rate soar. Emotion is the ground of benefits… Sell the benefits of receiving your offer…

Consider the emotional benefits the triggers that prompt people to take action. Visitors will love the bargains you have to offer. They love secrets that will help them accomplish their desired goal. And they don’t want to miss out on anything that will help them get to their goal…

“Receive The Top 10 Jealously-Guarded Secrets For Easily Losing Weight That You Gained During The Christmas and New Year’s Holidays (In 15 Days)… Absolutely Free For The Next 37 Subscribers!”

That sells the opt-in and your free report through an emotional and benefit based appeal.

Tell The Visitor To Subscribe, Give Them a Call to Action

I’ve saved the most important key to a highly converting squeeze page for last.

The success of your squeeze pages depends on your telling visitors to sign up and opt into your list. A call to action and telling the visitor to sign up have enormous psychological power.

For example, have you ever held out an item to a friend and said, “Hold this for a second.” Chances are, your friend complied without even realizing he or she was doing it. This is part of the psychology of selling… and you are selling the potential customer to get on your list so that you can communicate with them in the future…

Here’s the problem… You’re an affiliate marketer, but at the same time, you know that you need to make a list to take your business to the next level… The problem is that you’re sending people to a sales page that’s not yours and this “affiliate program” is making their list at your expense…

I just received and email from "Bill", who read my blog post on What to do When the ClickBank Vendor’s Sales Page Stinks … That’s the one where I talk about re-making the ClickBank sales page as an advantage…

One of those advantages is because… You can use the re-made sales page to make your own list… And that list you can build a rapport with and promote products through…

Bill told me that affiliate marketing is the only thing he does online and he knows that what they say about, "the money is in the list” and that being the way he needs to go to really make it online…

List building is a chore unto itself… But…

How do You Make a List When You’re Referring People to Someone Else’s Product and Sales Page Through an Affiliate Program?

The affiliate program is the benefactor of you driving them the sales… And, the affiliate program is able to build their own list to profitably email to… But, you get nothing in the way of your own list building to make sales promotions to…

You know you need a list to keep your business thriving and viable online…

And, you know that, as a marketer online you should be doing this, but you are lost as far as how to do it…

Back to Bill’s Question and What an Affiliate Marketer can Do to Build a List…

Does CBLlistAutomator work and show results? That’s what Bill was asking…

I emailed him back and told him that it depended on the product that you’re recommending and what niche that you’re in…

I told Bill, CBListAutomator has always produced results for me and has built my lists as a ClickBank affiliate marketer… In many different markets and niches… So…

Let’s Look at the Different Ways That an Affiliate Marketer Can Build Their Own List

All at the expense of the affiliate merchant and what you are promoting…

Use your own website to build a list

Use pre-sell pages as an affiliate to build your list

Use list building software to build your list

Okay…

How Do You Use Your Own Website to Build Your Own List

This is one of the traditional ways of list building… You have an optin form on each page of your website enticing the visitor to to sign up to a newsletter, get a special report, or some special free ebook on the specific topic.

You can have have different optin forms for different offers on… yes, different pages… In fact, this is the preferred method… Make each offer specific to the topic of that web page and then you can segment your lists to “highly targeted traffic”…

So, let’s say that you’re in the health and fitness niche, and you’re promoting health machines through your affiliate programs…

You offer a free report on the differences of the health machines in your market and which ones are the best for your visitors… And they give you their name and email in return… Hey, they’re on your list…

And, your report can be modified for each fitness machine so that it can be offered as a different report for each one.. on a page or pre-sell page that is dedicated to that individual fitness machine…

How Do You Use Pre-Sell Pages as an Affiliate to Build Your List

There are a couple of options here… The old and traditional way is to send visitors to a squeeze page between your pre-sell page and the vendor’s… This is where you have an optin page to some significant offer that is relevant to what the visitor is looking for.

The big problem with this method is that it’s another step in the sales funnel to getting that affiliate sales… You may get someone to sign up to your list, but you might lose the sale because of more friction caused by the squeeze page in the sales process…

On the other hand, you might have such a compelling offer that they take you up on it…

And, if you word the squeeze page in such a way, they will take you up on your offer and submit the form… Ah,ha you captured them to your list… In such case, they are then taken to the vendor’s sales page and you may make the affiliate sales too…

Like I said, it’s just one more step in the process and that can interfere with your affiliate sales… But… done properly, it is a means of building your list…

There is another method, the more modern way is to use list building software to get visitors to sign up to your list…

How Do You Use List Building Software to Build Your Own Mailing List

I’ve already said that CBListAutomator is a great way to do this if you’re promoting ClickBank products. The nice thing about this product is… that with it, you tell your perspective’s that you have an additional benefit that you re going to offer them if they buy thorough your affiliate link…

What you get… Yeah…

You get the visitor on your list and they get the product you are promoting (If they buy the affiliate’s product), plus, they get your bonus or bonuses that are pertinent and relevant to what they are looking for…

But there is another way still… And, that’s to create a Pop-Over ad on any affiliate sales page… What you’re doing here is overriding the sales message and side-tracking it… I’m just beginning to track and test this method, but so far, it’s working better that I would have thought…

You probably know those offers where a floating optin form or a graying out of the sales page wants you to optin to a subscription, newsletter, free ebook, or whatever… From what I’ve seen and tested, this method is effective…

Okay… the software to do this is fairly common and you just Google for "List Building Software"…. and You’ll find the right one for you and your situation… I have been testing Power List Pro for this purpose…

Be sure, if you use this method, to test it for your purposes and whether the script increases your list and your conversions…

But, If you’re like me, I do a lot of ClickBank affiliate marketing and… if you’re in that category, you might look to CBListAutomator to start your list building campaigns in your niche…

The Thing is… You Don’t Have to be at the Mercy of Your Affiliate Vendor, Where They Build Their List and You Don’t…

There are ways of getting around your affiliate merchant and still build your very own subscriber list so that you can begin the conversation with them and build a rapport that may bring you more sales in the future…

If you take advantage of this, you have highly targeted traffic and we all know what that means…

To be able to do this though… You have to build a list that you can email to… With your specific message… Think about this and what it will mean to your bottom line…

With Some People, Their Own Product is More in Their Mindset and Thus the Right Choice

I found it interesting when my neighbor showed up yesterday afternoon… He hardly ever comes over and when he does, it’s for a reason…

Let’s backtrack on this story…

A couple of times ago when Bob (not his real name), came over, he was depressed… I could see it in his face as he knocked on my door and came into my little mountain cabin (Yeah, I live in this homebuilt log cabin in the Colorado foothills)…

Bob is one of those people that is having a hard time during this recession (There’s a lot of us citizens that can relate to that)… He’s self-employed, running an electrician company… A Master Electrician by profession. Times are tough and money getting scarce… Clients are scare too…

Bob’s wife is carrying him at the moment… She’s not crazy about that… And that’s not like him either… and he doesn’t like it… So, he thought he would come to me because he knew that I knew something about being online…

Need I say more?

Bob knew that I have an online business that helps me supplement my offline income…

Asking me about where to get started, I told him about affiliate marketing. I even gave him an old eBook on the subject to teach him what to do…

I went through the whole spiel about what affiliate marketing is and how you find affiliate programs and set everything up… Find domain names and register them… Get ready to start selling…

I pointed him to some free WISYWIG editors and told him about WordPress and How to set that up and how to use Windows LiveWriter to post to his blog… Everything…

He should have been set to go… and off he went…

Next Time I Saw Bob

Nothing had happened… I think it’s that way with most newbie marketers. Yeah, he told me that “I looked at all you gave me and I thought about what you said and, “That’s a lot of work”…

It’s not the get rich quick scam that everyone is looking for… You have to put the time in to be an affiliate marketer… So, I thought of a different approach to Bob…

Have You Thought of Making Your Own Product?

I asked him about what he knew about what people needed to know about doing their own electrical work around their houses… especially if they were cash strapped…

He went on and on…

Some people need to create their own product. Selling affiliate products to others is “selling”. But, selling their own product is something else… A different mindset.

I told Bob what I thought about this and maybe him writing an eBook about electrical problems that the homeowner might want to overcome… He told me, “I can’t do that, I can’t write, especially a book”

We went on to discuss the choice of writing some short reports that he could market… I told him about Paul Myers’ eBook on Build Your Own Empire… 20 Pages at a Time and how short reports might be the way to go…

Plus, I told him about the bonus of the eBook/report templates that Paul supplies… Ones that he could just type his reports/eBook into with ease… saving him time.

That Brings Us to the Present

Remember, Bob is knocking on my door and I’m letting him in… The big surprise is that Bob has three reports that he’s made on different electrical problems that the homeowner might be faced with….

He’s got a nice looking set of reports because of the templates in the Build-Your-Own-empire.. 20 Pages at a Time package provide, and he’s ready to start using the other bonuses like the one on making your sales page for your new product…

So, now, Bob is looking for marketing advice again… But now he has his own product and that fits more into his mindset for what you should be selling online…

Now, I think he actually can do it…

Sometimes it just means finding out what fits with you… What you feel comfortable with, and having the guidance that you might get through a good eBook or neighborly advice…

Maybe you should check out Build-Your-Own-empire.. 20 Pages at a Time and see if you should be making small reports, so that you can start marketing your own products….

Paul Myers isn't your typical internet marketing guru, but he teaches you with no hype, no fluff and doesn't hold anything back through his TalkBiz News

A few days ago, I downloaded and read Paul Myers’ The Fortune at Your Fingertips. This inexpensive report/workbook is a motivator… it reminds us all that that if you’re a marketer, you probably have a gazillion reports, ebooks, videos and courses on your hard drive that could lead you to making the money online that you are looking for.

“The Fortune at Your Fingertips”: A Motivator

But what this report really does is motivate you… through a series of list exercises, to go through all of these and decide whether they’re worth keeping or not… So, I’ve been going through my hard drive and flash drives (thumb drives) and weeding out the crud…

And boy, are there’s a bunch of crummy stuff that I’ve accumulated over the years of being an internet marketer… A lot of HYPE and same old stuff that’s full of sh!t and black hat tactics. And… I’ve cleared up a lot of disc space during this weeding process…

I’ve also organized a lot of the best and most appropriate ebooks, reports and courses into appropriate folders… One of the biggest is called "Paul Myers". I didn’t realize how much of his products I’ve bought over the years… You see, Paul is a marketer that knows what he’s doing and a great internet marketing professional (I don’t want to say guru)…

“TalkBiz News”

He has a newsletter called TalkBiz News that is one of the three email newsletters that I subscribe to that I open before any other emails. I love his candor and "straight from the hip" style of writing… More important, I have learned more about online marketing from his newsletter and products than I have from some of those so-called internet gurus out there…

And yet, most internet marketers don’t even know about him because he truly is under the radar… I find that the people that I learn the most from about marketing online are the ones that are illusive and behind the scenes.

“Need to Know” eBook for Free

One nice thing about his email newsletter is that if you subscribe to it, you will get his free "Need to Know" ebook" which he should be selling for $97+. But that’s not like Paul… He’s one of those internet marketing guys that likes to over-deliver… and this ebook is 112 pages long, no fluff, no hype, normal print (not those 18pt+ font that just fill up space), and full of relevant information.

As I was cleaning off my hard drive and organizing what was left, I came across the Need to Know ebook and started reading it again… What a jewel in the sea of internet marketing information… It’s all about establishing your internet business and how to make it a success… I find it hard to believe that this is a free ebook just for subscribing to his email newsletter… And… He’s giving this away!

Paul’s Need to Know ebook is an internet marketing course extrordinare… plus an online marketing philosophy… It’s marketing for newbies plus commonsense knowledge for experienced marketers… and all in a free ebook!

If you take note of the message this ebook is giving you, you can’t have anything but success in your online endeavors. I know that I have had much more success as an internet marketer since I started reading Paul Myers’ newsletter and reports…

“Build Your Own Empire”

For instance, a little while back, I bought Paul’s Build Your Own Empire… 20 Pages at a Time which is about making your own informational products… it made me realize that I can easily make my own products if I limit their size and keep them short. I always learn something new when I read Paul’s reports…

The new idea that I learned with this report is to write the sales page first, who’d of thunk it? I thought that you did that after you created your product. But no, Paul teaches that you use the sales letter as an outline and you also use it to double-check that your info product delivers everything that you’ve promised on the sales page.

In Praise of Paul Myers

If you haven’t guessed yet, I think that Paul Myers and TalkBiz News are a valuable asset to an internet marketer. And that’s what this rant is all about. It’s a praise for Paul, his professional newsletter, his informational products and his influence on one’s marketing brain.

When you see his website, you’ll notice that it’s very plain. In fact, you’ll find that his sales pages are plain and almost non sales pages… Paul Myers just tells it like it is…

The other thing about Paul and his products is that they have always fit in my budget. Most have been in the $10-27 range and I can think on only three that I paid more than that for… Plus, as I said earlier, there’s that over-deliver factor and with that, Paul Myers does just that… the un-advertised bonuses are usually worth more than the price of the product.

So, that’s the end of that rant. I think you get my point… Go subscribe to TalkBizNews and get your free 112 page ebook on the "Need to Know".

Here's what you can do when you realize that the ClickBank Vendor's sales page isn't converting to sales because it literally stinks.

If you have a good ClickBank product to promote, that has good traffic to it, is in demand in your niche, and you have determined that it has a market that is willing to pay for it, but you’ve been to the sales page and it stinks… Just what can you do about marketing this product?

You actually have an opportunity staring you in the eyes… All you need to do is increase the sales page’s conversion rate. There are a couple of ways of doing this:

Write an outstanding pre-sell page or review and tell the visitor to ignore the sales page because it stinks and go straight for the order button

Write your own killer sales page and bypass the vendor

When I first started with ClickBank affiliate marketing, I used the former of these two bypass methods. It was the easier of the two. Just pre-sell well, write a good review and tell the visitor to go straight for the order button…

Write Your Own Custom Sales Page to Replace the Vendor’s Page

Nowadays, I prefer option two… If you read my last post on evaluating ClickBank products for profitability, you should now know that if you have a gravity score on your ClickBank product and it is increasing, your referred sales percentage is constant or decreasing, and the popularity is decreasing amongst the affiliates, this product is ripe for you to market.

Why? The product is in demand and affiliates have stopped promoting it. Those affiliates that are still in the game are getting better at it. Thus, you must assume that fewer affiliates are selling more. With that in mind, you might assume that it’s the pre-sell by the affiliates that’s really selling. Not the vendor’s sales page copy that’s converting. And, you have to assume that most of those affiliates are using the first method of sales page bypass.

Another thing is when you look at the percent per sale graph on CB Trends, because this value takes into account the refunds and how they affect what you make. So, if there are no changes in this graph or the percentage increases this tells you that the product is good with low refunds, the market is there because visitors are buying and it might be that the sales page copy is not doing the job that it’s suppose to do.

But, then again, a low conversion rate doesn’t mean that the sales page copy is what’s wrong. It could signal that the market for this product is non-viable. Or, the product is in demand but the market isn’t willing to pay for that particular product.

This is when you have the opportunity to create your own custom sales page that will convert better than the merchant’s sales copy. That’s the nice part of this method, when you create your own sales page you are in control. You can test your copy and you can build your own list selling the ClickBank product you are promoting.

You Found the Product to Promote – What Next? The Sales Funnel

The next step is to set up your sales funnel… You are in control of this so you will want to write a better converting sales page than the vendor’s poorly converting page. You can test this sales page till it gets maximum sales conversions.

A relatively inexpensive conversion testing software that you can use to do your sales page testing is Conversion Chicken. I highly recommend it as it is one of the most user friendly split-testers that I have run across and when compared to other split-testing software out there, you can’t beat the price.

The thing is, you can’t use your hoplink in this sales letter to capture the order as it will send your visitor to the vendor’s sales page and that’s what you’re trying to by pass as it isn’t converting sales well. In order to do this, you need to make an order link that goes straight to the merchant’s order page and includes your ClickBank nickname so that you get credit for the sales and you get your commission.

To do this, you need to make a link like this:

http://[ITEM].[Your ClickBank Nickname]_[Affiliate Product Publisher].pay.clickbank.net

You need to replace [ITEM] with the item number – (1,2,3 or whatever)

Replace Your [ClickBank Nickname] with your ClickBank Nickname

And then replace [Affiliate Product Publisher] with the vendor’s ClickBank Name

An Example would be: http://1.ristvin_cbpirate.pay.clickbank.net (this is an actual link that will take you to the CB Pirate order page) Once you have made your link, be sure to cloak your link so you don’t have your commission stolen from you.

There is a software program that will do all of that for you called Affiliate Cloner. In fact, this powerful software does much more… It can also make custom order links for any affiliate product in any affiliate program that you belong to. Affiliate Cloner also allows buyers to order directly from emails that you send to your list through your autoresponder.

Now you know that you can writer your own sales page, test it till you get the highest conversion rate, and send the visitor directly to the ClickBank order form by making your own custom order link or by having Affiliate Cloner do this for you.

Build Your List

This is great because now you can test and tweak your custom sales page to have more control over your sales funnel and you can do the one thing that is important to your marketing endeavors and that’s build your list. There’s a few ways to build your list when you are remaking a vendor’s sales page.

First, you can offer a special bonus in your sales copy that the visitor can get if they order the product through your link. You can then use a software like CBListAutomator to capture the name and email of the buyer and deliver the special bonus automatically upon the purchase of the product. CBListAutomator is a niffty piece of software to do this and is very user friendly when it comes to installing and setting up… One downfall is that it only works with ClickBank sales.

The second way I’ve found to build a list from ClickBank is by using another piece of software called CB Accountant. It would be nice if you could have control over the "thank you" page that ClickBank generates for the customer that bought through your link, but unfortunately, this is the only part of the sales funnel that you have no control over.

If you did have control, you could customize it to capture the buyers name and email. Being that you can’t do this, CB Accountant comes to the rescue. CB Accountant will extract the customer contact data for you and export this information to your list automatically.

And, finally the third way to build your list is to send your potential customer from your pre-sell page to an optin page prior to them being sent to your custom sales page. Here you have to ask them to give up their name and email address in return for some bonus or free report.

So that’s how you can get around a merchant’s crummy sales page that literally stinks when it comes to converting sales. I hope this was helpful…

One of the big problems with ClickBank is finding the profitable CB vendor products that convert well and make you a profit. The beauty of ClickBank though, is if you can find the right, profitable products that sell well, you can make the money that you are looking for in your niche.

It’s not just enough to go to the ClickBank marketplace and find the products with high popularity, high commissions and high gravity and think that they are the products that are going to sell well and make you the money you want. You really have to research and evaluate products to find the ones that will convert well into sales.

I want to show you how I evaluate ClickBank vendor products for profitability. It goes on the premise that affiliates pre-sell the products they are promoting and because of this, they may do a better job of selling the product than the actual sales page does. So, I try to weight the CB statistics on the merchant’s product with how it might sell through "organic search".

The "gravity" stat enters highly in how I evaluate the profitability as does the affiliate referral rate. I use CBEngine Pro to look at statistics like refund rate. Let’s take a look at some great clues that you can find out through ClickBank and other sources.

Evaluating ClickBank Gravity and Referral Percentage

Let’s say you find a vendor that has a high gravity score with a low affiliate referral percentage. This means that the vendor relies heavily on affiliates pre-selling the product to convert sales. And, it also might mean that the copy on the sales page might not be doing the job of conversion on its own (many times I’ve written pre-sell pages where I tell the visitor to ignore the crummy sales copy and scroll right to the "order button" and click on it).

Then again, you might find that the percentage of affiliate referrals is high and the gravity score is low. In this case, the product may be poor. It takes affiliates to do most of the selling or it could mean that both the affiliates and the sales copy are doing a poor job of selling the product… If the product is poor, you can figure this out in CB Engine by looking at the refund rate.

What if you find that the gravity is high and the affiliate referral percentage is also high? Here again, the sales page copy might be poor and sales conversions might be totally driven by affiliates… One thing that you know for sure is that there is lots of competition and if you are using ppc to drive traffic to your review or pre-sell page, your traffic generation costs will be high.

In a case like this you want less competition, meaning vendor product means you are looking for one with a high gravity and a low percentage of affiliate sales.

What You Want to Know is How Well is the Sales Page Converting On its Own

The above analysis is what you get when you look at the ClickBank Statistics or a deeper look through CB Engine. This is where most affiliates stop and make their product promotion picks. But this is just a piece of the puzzle and you wan to go on to the next step to further refine your choice…

What I do now is go to Compete, Alexa or my favorite, QuantCast. Enter the sales page URL and any of these services will give you the average monthly traffic.

QuantCast will also give you the site’s competitors and top keywords that have been used to drive traffic to the site, as well as the traffic’s demographics. These will give you insights into the niche and market and ideas on how to slant your pre-sell page.

Using the example that I used in my last post on Understanding ClickBank, I found that this site receives 4,280 visitors a month. QuantCast tells me that 97% of these are unique visitors and the rest are returning visitors. This means that 4,152 of the monthly visitors are "unique".

Now we can get an idea of the conversion rate of this merchant’s product. This is not !00% accurate, but a ballpark figure. In any case, we’ll get a good idea of how much of the new traffic is converting to sales.

Back to CB Engine Pro, I see that the gravity is 103.48 (highest in it’s category), and the percentage of affiliate sales is 84%. This means that 16% of the sales are made from organic traffic.

If 84% of the affiliate sales gives a gravity score of 103.48, then adding the extra 16% in organic traffic (making 100% sales) gives us a total gravity of 123. You can now assume that this ClickBank product made 123 sales in the last 8 weeks.

Meaning that 8,560 visitors made 123 conversions in 2 months. And that means that the sales page conversion rate (in this case, because we’re just guessing, this is more of a conversion score) is around 0.02%. Not too good…

What we have learned, is that this ClickBank vendor is getting plenty of traffic to the sales page, but it’s converting poorly. This might not be the right product to promote even though it has a high gravity, yet we still need a few more pieces of the puzzle to know this for sure.

Uncover the ClickBank Product Trends

Most marketers know that trends can be powerful when judging niches and products. You can use Google trends, Compete.com or QuantCast.com to follow the trends in the marketplace in terms of the amount of traffic. But for our purpose of evaluating ClickBank products, we want the trends to be specific to the ClickBank Marketplace.

For this, I use CB Trends. This website follows all the affiliate sales and trends of the ClickBank Network. It gives you charts that are analysis of the various performance factors that you will want to see occurring over time. This will give you a clue to the overall performance of the ClickBank product you are researching.

In CB Trends, if we want to see is the sales of a product are going up, we check the "popularity" graph. Popularity in CB Trends means the popularity of general vs affiliate based sales. The lower the popularity value, the more popular the CB product is with affiliates. The higher the value, the more popular the CB product is with non-affiliate traffic.

We know that our product is getting fairly decent traffic so in CB Trends, we see that the popularity value is increasing. This is an indication that this product is losing popularity with affiliate marketers. Also, it’s an indication that the vendor is not doing something right. It could also mean that the affiliates have stopped sending traffic to the sales page because the copy doesn’t convert to sales.

If the gravity is high and the product is becoming less popular with affiliates as with our example product, it probably means that the merchant is converting more on its own with non-affiliate traffic. Maybe the vendor has been testing and tweaking the sales page for better conversions by organic traffic. (Nah… that can’t be the case in our example.)

If the "referred sales" graph is constant or increasing and the product is converting better with affiliates, but gaining in the "popularity" graph (meaning losing ground with affiliates), this may be an indication that the sales copy is doing poorly standing on its own.

Take a look at the "percent per sale" graph. If it is remaining constant or increasing, you know there is a demand for the product and people are buying it. The percent per sale takes into account refunds. Refunds will lower its score. So if this graph is constant or increasing you know that the product is good, the market is there, and maybe the copy is not doing its job because it relies on affiliates to pre-sell the product.

Is the ClickBank Product Profitable?

This question can only be asked by you… Hopefully, the above conversation on evaluating ClickBank products for their profitability will help you in making that determination. If you use the ClickBank statistics that you can get through CB Engine, QuantCast and CB Trends, you should be able to get a good idea whether the ClickBank product that you think is a match for your niche or market is the right one in a profitability sense.
